Beary Strange

Somewhere deep in Bear Country

Lives the Berenstain Bear family
They're kind of furry around the torso

They're a lot like people, only more so

The bear fact is that

They're just like you and me

The only difference

Is they live in a tree

This is an excerpt from the theme of the public television show "The Berenstain Bears." Now, I absolutely love the Berenstain Bears. I read the books as a child, and now Dennis and I watch the television show at work during our lunch break everyday. While I do love this show, I cannot help but note the falsehoods in the song. I know it's a children's show, but honestly, "They're a lot like people, only more so"??? "They're just like you and me, the only difference is they live in a tree"????? What do these statements even mean?? Who wrote this theme song? How was it seriously approved and used for the show? I'm all for using your imagination (I do everyday), but I just cannot understand how something could be more human than a human. Dennis and I just laugh and shake our heads everyday....crazy Berenstain Bears.
